Racers on the NICE LIST will enjoy the fun and challenging loop course for 1 hour.  Those on the NAUGHTY LIST will be “punished” for 4 hours. Riders who want to work together as a group can sign up for the REINDEER TEAM OPTION: teams of 2-4 will send out one rider on course, at a time, while the others stay warm and cozy by the outside fire pit or in the warming house. Solo riders and team riders alike will attempt to ride as many laps around the 5 mile course as possible before time runs out.


Date & Time
This 2nd annual holiday season themed race is held on December 16, 2017 from NOON to 4pm MDT.  With a traditional holiday style dinner, award ceremony and lots of really fun winter-time activities for the whole family lasting all day, through the night, and even into the next morning.  It will feel like Christmas came early for the whole family! HO, HO, HO!

The start, finish, dinner and awards will all be held at the brand new Badlands Pizza Saloon in the historic town of Medora, ND.  The Pizza Saloon will be the warming house for both racers and spectators.  Spectators can be bold and brave the cold, next to the outside fire pits on the patio as they cheer for racers making their laps around the course.

A fun and challenging 5 mile loop of mixed terrain including a lung burning paved road climb, miles of Maah Daah Hey downhill single track and a flat bike path for recovering or passing. It’s the perfect course to keep the event interesting and safe whether it is 32 above or below zero.  Conditions may vary from dirt and asphalt to ice and snow… Be prepared!

Outdoor fire pits, FREE build your own Christmas cookies,  FREE family movie night at the Rough Rider Hotel meeting room, hot cocoa, kid’s Christmas projects, delicious holiday style dinner, adult drinks available.  Plus package deals for over night stays, breakfast, and a recovery group ride the next morning… Be bold, brave the cold as a family! 

Santa’s “LAP” ProgramEvery LAP that is made by every racer will get tallied up into a grand total.  Sponsors will donate X amount of dollars towards each LAP, all proceeds will go to buying new equipment, like mountain bikes and snow shoes, for Home On The Range’s new Adventure Therapy Program, for their residents.  The more LAPS that riders can do the merrier!  Sometimes it really is better to give than receive… help us give the gift of adventure!

Registration Prices:

$39 – 1 hour “NICE LIST” racer

$49 – 4 hour “NAUGHTY LIST” racer

$29 – for each member in the “REINDEER TEAM OPTION” (teams of 2-4)

Registration fee includes: Access to the fully marked, permitted, and prepped racecourse, numbered race plate, full use of the warming house facility at the Badlands Pizza Saloon before – during – and after the race, finisher medal, H2O, other beverages available for purchase.  You AND your family AND friends who come to watch you race may enjoy the outdoor fire pits, build your own Christmas cookies, hot cocoa, racer awards ceremony, prizes for top finishers, family movie at the Rough Rider hotel in the evening, and even a just-for-fun group recovery ride the next morning.

Delicious Holiday Style Dinner:

$26 – each for adult

$10 – each kid ages 6-12

FREE – for kids 5 and under

Buffet dinner includes: Pot roast, garlic mashed potatoes, gravy, cream corn, dinner rolls, garden salad with assorted dressing, and lemonade.  Soda, wine, beer, liquor are available for purchase at the bar during dinner and throughout the race and award ceremony.  We opted to provide a really nice dinner option for this event, since it is during the holiday season.  The price will reflect the quality of the food.  In order to keep registration fees lower for racers not interested in eating at the event, dinner is NOT included with race registration fee.  You will need to add a meal ticket to your cart for each racer AND spectator who plans to eat.  Meal tickets can be purchased on the day of the event, while supplies last, and only after all pre-purchased meal tickets have been served.  

Dinner & Hotel Package Deal:

$129 – ONE dinner, ONE drink ticket, ONE reservation for a beautiful and cozy hotel room at the Rough Riders Hotel, including a hot continental breakfast.

$159- TWO dinners, TWO drink tickets, ONE reservation for a beautiful and cozy hotel room at the Rough Riders Hotel, including a hot continental breakfast.

No additional costs for extra occupants like kids or splitting rooms with friends.  You may purchase any additional meal tickets, as needed, separately on the registration site. Sunday December 17th (MST)

  • 9:30am    –  Just for fun, Group Recovery Ride.  Route to be determined by conditions and ambitions of attendees.


  1. Be bold, brave the cold!  But be smart about it. Be prepared for the conditions, you are responsible for you.
  2. Non-motorized FAT bikes only… must have tires 3.8 inches wide, or fatter!
  3. Helmet is required.
  4. Stay on course. Racecourse will be well marked and easy to follow.
  5. Follow the rules of the road.
  6. If a fellow racer is injured or in danger, help them, either by assisting them yourself or by getting help.  If you sacrifice your race while assisting another racer or volunteer with a serious situation we will give you free registration for next year’s race.
